Excellent looks -- dark brown orange turbidity with a heavy dry top of thick cream. Massive, developed appearance. Fresh, distinct cascade hops flower the nose paired with a tropical fruitiness.
Taste is a more drawn-out version of the smell, creating an awesome developed presentation and balance of hops and malts in this character IPA. Great thickness in the fresh hops which blend with the fruity cherry malts. Slightly sour and salty, I was reminded most of guava and rhubarb -- with notes of blueberries and cherries. Bitters out in the after to slightly smokey carbon.
Very smooth and almost thin body -- which added to the drinkability and feel.
Some Anchor Steam funkiness.
Hands down the most hoppy Japanese beer I've tasted to date -- and one of my favorites.
