Got this as a gift from the neighbor who was in the neighborhood on business. Never one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I gladly accepted and gave it a spin.
Poured into my Schlafly nonic glass. Appearance was typical for the style, though it was clear the beer was severely undercarbonated. He bought it 24 hours before delivery, so I don't know if that's how it was brewed or if there were issues with the growler cap. Consequently, the head was thin at best. Deep dark in color as a porter should be.
Nose was rather weak. Some nuttiness from the malts and perhaps coffee hidden behind but not much else.
Ditto for taste. Not much going on here. Very understated maltiness with a slight alcohol and coffee finish. Not offensive, just not spectacular.
Mouthfeel was very thin for the style. The lack of carbonation was really bothersome. It's a porter, but there's got to be at least a hint of it.
Drinkability was ok. Again, the beer was average at best. Very drinkable mind you, but just flat and average.
