On-tap at 3 Floyds. Served in a tulip.
A - Tan foam settles to a thin cap and splotchy lace. Hazy amber body with a nice glow to it.
S - Sweet caramel malts, pine and herbal hops, a touch of orange zest, red licorice, bready malts, and some noticeable alcohol. I didn't know the ABV when I ordered this, but you can definitely tell it's in double figures.
T - Taste is again a solid mix of red fruits, bread malts, toffee, lightly burnt sugars, and citrus hops. Less bitterness and herbal character in the flavor, but the alcohol is also better hidden here.
M - Medium-full body, zesty medium-high carbonation, dry toasty texture, and fairly low residual stickiness considering the ABV and style. Some definite warming alcohol after a few ounces.
D - This is a one and done sort of beer, but it's a pretty well-executed Imperial (Triple?) Red. I think I would have liked it better if it was closer to 9% and had a touch more hop punch.
