Half liter vom fass at the Winkler BräuWirt in Amberg, inside the walls of the Altstadt. Better than the average score here, glad that didn’t scare me off from ordering this as the first beer. A bit stronger than a traditional Helles but not quite of Export strength. Super refreshing and has all the great qualities of the style that we love.

Pours a clean golden color with a bigger, spongy head.
Smell is of wheat, oats, caramel malts and lighter, grassy hops.
Has a light, easy drinking body to it with a solid amount of carbonation to it.
Tastes of bread dough covered dried herbs with a well fitting mineralic quality, resulting from the carbonation in this. Gets way sweeter out of nowhere then, pushing out the beer‘s possible complexity entirely from the palate. Finishes unbalanced, with sweet, sweet malts and nothing else to speak of.
Unbalanced and therefore not very enjoyable. While this begins quite promising, it becomes one dimensional quite soon.
