An amber coloured mild ale, comparatively light in colour, yet full tasting for its alcohol content of 2.8%. Shortly before and after World War II the best selling beer in much of the UK was light coloured ale.

The first beer I ever drank as a sneaky teenager at the Olde Cheshire Cheese. Revisiting it at the Angel Rotherhithe ten years later, it has all the nostalgia of a proper old-fashioned English mild, an exemplar of a dying race.
