Served in a pint glass from the tap.
Appearance: Brown with crimson highlights. Small taupe colored head. Recedes a film and a ring right quick and leaves smallish blobs of foam on the glass.
Smell: Whiffs of candi sugar and anise. Reminiscent of this one Canadian candy I had recently that tasted of a black licorice twinged root beer flavored Lifesaver.
Taste: Dark and sweet candi laced malts followed by anise tastes that go on for quite some time, perhaps a little too long to my taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium to full in body with a pronounced aftertaste of anise.
Drinkability: You'd best like black licorice to have this. I'm not too partial to it. A little too heavy handed with the anise. Less is definitely more. Not a bad little beer, though.
Per the blurb sheet: spiced with candi sucre and anise. Sour mashed malt.
Other: Entering this as a Flanders Red/Old Bruin due to the name, but Belgian (Strong) Dark Ale would work just as well.
