Tried this at the brewpub this week after a meal. The barleywine is served in a small goblet, and has a deep reddish brown appearance. The inital smells are of sweet banana and pear. The mouthfeel is good, not too thin, but had a rather annoying pucker at first. I suppose thats overdone hops turned grapefruitjuice. There is plenty of sweetness, and rich carmel taste from the malts. Overall, its not a bad barleywine, but just average. The alcohol is there in a big way too and seems to push too much esteric sweetness across the palate. Almost cloying, but not heavy enough. Hopfeel was very lacking. A world apart from something like SN Bigfoot. Wish the abv was listed. I'd guess > 10%.
