Poured on tap at the 1100 New York Avenue location into a Belgian style chalice/goblet. Is there a reason for this??? Guess my arms need a workout to lift this HEAVY glass?

This beer right off does not look good. Cloudy sure it's unfiltered but it looks like brown apple cider, with lemon hues. No head was presented at all, and the surface looks "filmy" as if it has something coating it on top. This really doesn't look appetizing at all, it looks awful, right away I am turned off.

Bouquet is incredibly muted, but there is a faint citrus grapefruit but also hints of muted apple juice. Nothing else, no hops nothing.

First thing I get when I taste this thing is butter this just doesn't feel right at all, but with a big hop presence only after swallowing. Hop presence feels in mid palate but this also feels fairly watery and strangely flat. It really tastes and feels weird.

Drinkability is a pass for me, this has the hoppyness associated with this style a bit, but it's too watery, has hardly an aromatics on the nose, and it looks terrible. This "might" very well be the worst IPA I've ever had "on tap". (so far)

Flew into Baltimore for a wedding so of course I had to drive to DC to get my DC tick on. This beer was recommended by the bar tender. On tap into a huge heavy glass goblet...Pours a very dark orange, copper hints. A light tan head, poor retention and lacing...The aroma is very malty, tons of caramel, fresh wet hosp of the piney variety. As it warms some nice grapefruit aromas come through. Not bad at all...The taste isn't as impressive but fairly decent, again a very sweet ipa, this reminds me of a weak dipa. A weird metallic finish sucks.

A good pick if you're trying to tick DC, but nothing worth trying otherwise.

A new IPA from the folks at Cap City, tapped for the 1st time on Dec 29 at the NY Ave location. The bar manager called it an unfiltered IPA.

Appearance: Pours light amber in color and very cloudy, that it might be chill haze, but the cloudiness never subsided. The head is substantial and long lasting along with nice sheets of lacing lining the glass.

Smell: Not a whole lot going on in the aroma department, not sure if that was due to the smokiness of the bar or the aroma hops used. Hard to pick out any characteristics that stand out.

Taste: Very smooth and easy to drink. Pretty well balanced with a nice semi sweet malty backbone, with hints of brown sugar and caramel followed by a nice citrusy hop bitterness that lingers long on the tongue.

Mouthfeel: Medium with ample carbonation.

Drinkability/Notes: Cap City IPA is an easy to drink IPA. Well balanced and not overly hopped, more like and APA in my opinion but still decent nonetheless. Plenty of semi sweet malts make for a nice foundation before the hops finally kick in the a subtle but nice citrusy bitterness. Easy to make a session of these without getting bored. Sort of reminds me of a Deschutes Inversion IPA. Recommended, seek and enjoy.
