Short Review. I did not care for this beer. I liked the idea behind it and in theory it sounded good, but when i got into I realized that it needed some major work. It was over carbonated and watery which really hurt the mouth feel.. It smelled a little bland with only a little bit of banana coming through. The taste was a big let down with pretty pretty much no chocolate, a little banana and the rest of the flavors were just watery and grainy. It even had a little sourness on the finish. No recommended.

Poured from bottle to trusty ol' tulip. Wife uses a pint. Aggressive pour gives me a few fingers of luscious mocha head that, while huge, is thin. Active carbonation, big bubbles that burst and settle with no lacing and leave no trace. The wife's, however, retains a tan cap in the pint glass. Aroma is tantalizing: big banana notes with clove, also present in the flavor with some roasted coffee beans/cocoa powder and applesauce (no joke). Aroma gives to hint of the roastiness, a bit of a pleasant surprise.

22 ounce bottle into weizen glass; no bottle dating, but was recently released. Pours hazy nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense dark tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big banana, bubblegum, pear, apple, clove, chocolate, cocoa, toast, dark bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast and dark/roast/bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big banana, bubblegum, pear, apple, clove, chocolate, cocoa, toast, dark bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Light-moderate earthy yeast spiciness and wheaty tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of banana, bubblegum, pear, apple, clove, chocolate, cocoa, toast, dark bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Nice robustness, complexity, and balance of fruity/earthy yeast and dark/roast/bready malt flavors; with a good malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice dunkelweizen style. All around good robustness, complexity, and balance of fruity/earthy yeast and dark/roast/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A bit more roasty on malts than the traditional style, but not overdone at all. A nicely enjoyable offering.
