I knew this beer had won gold in the past at the GABF so I was happy to take home growler from the source.
Pours a burgandy/brown ale with no head to behold (uh-oh). There is a slight film if you agitate it enough. The smell consists of plums, sweet candy and a noticable alcohol presence. Whiff hard enough and you'll get the burn in the nostrils. The taste is slight apple, a little caramel with a BIG malt presense and some nice tummy warming as it hits the stomach. Oily mouthfeel though it is slick with no carbonation at all. Overall I think this is very true to the English BW (moreso than the American BW) style and while I enjoyed the growler, I would be hard pressed to purchase it again. It seemed flat to me but I have nothing to compare it to. Will revisit it in the future.
