Comes in a brown stubby-necked half liter bottle with a blue and white label featuring a tall pointed clock tower rising above the name, which means "Black Ale". Sugar is an ingredient. Best before 9/13/05, I opened it on 5/21/05.
Pours a cloudy and very dark brown under a pitiful large-bubbled head that could not even cover the top of the liquid and disappeared instandtaneously. The nose is fairly sweet, of caramel mostly. The mouth is both flat and prickly, if that's possible. Perhaps the heaviness of the liquid makes it seem flat. A bit syrupy, too. The taste is quite non-descript. Nothing objectionable, but also little to get excited about. It is slightly sweet, from the caramel, but lacking any other malt characteristics, and no hops whatsoever. Not even some fruitiness. This is pretty close to black water. But why would I want to drink black water?
