2 March 2020 - Beer #40

Price: $3.99 at Quarry Wine and Spirits in Baltimore

Appearance: 4 - quite black, and the light-ish head stuck around for a good long while. Looks a bit bubbly.

Nose: 4 - not a ton going on. A little roast, a little sweetness. You know what's coming. It's cromulent.

Taste: 4 - a pretty good blast of flavor right up front, not too sweet, a little barrel. Disappears soon after.

Mouth: 4 - thick-ish and quite bubbly. An interesting take on the style.

Overall: 4 - the kind of barrel-aged stout you can drink all day.

Cheers!

Black with creamy tan head; decent cap retention; moderately heavy lacing. Roast malt nose. Flavors of bitter roast malt, toast, lite char, lite chocolate malt; earthy hops and semi sweet Marris Otter malt. Dry medium full mouthfeel; moderate carbonation; a little on the light side body wise. Overall, very good bitter, dry Irish-style finish and linger.

Poured from a tap at the the Bier Baron, DC, it was a dark brown / essentially black with a one finger tan head in a tulip glass. Aroma of roasted malt and dark fruit like plums. Clearly high alcohol content which implies little sugar that would have hidden the alcohol. Decent mouth feel but lacking if compared to 'Old Rasputin', North Coast Brewing. The flavors have a "sustain" after swallowing. Nice.
