Draft, at the Pratt Street Ale House, Baltimore, poured into a goblet
Appearance: Pours a very pretty, deep, amber/copper color, speckled with reddish/orange highlights and a quarter of a finger of white-colored head that dissolved away into a semi-thick lacing of foam that completely covered the top of the beer.
Aroma: Only slightly aromatic. I get some notes of toasted malt, which imparts bready aromas of toasted English muffins, crackers and biscuits, as well as some aromas of brown sugar and caramel, as well as some slight floral grassy aromas of clover, honey-suckle, and piney hops.
Taste: Delicious! Exactly as an English bitter is supposed to taste! Strong flavors of toasted malt up front, very bready and toasty, followed by some nice caramel and brown sugar-like sweetness, a touch of black pepper, finished with a touch of nicely balanced, piney hops.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and very smooth and creamy as there is no carbonation what-so-ever. With an ABV of 4.3%, there is no alcohol on the palate.
Overall: Wow! This is an exceptional American version of an English Bitter! Malty, bready, sweet, a touch bitter at the finish. Outstanding!

Served in a nonic pint glass at ChurchKey.
Yet another Pratt Street cask offering at the CK. I'm not complaining, just musing about how many I'll have had by the end of the summer... This one pours a hazy lightish-tawny haloed by a vague collection of large tan bubbles. The nose comprises wood, pine, pretzels (the existence of salt here is debatable), walnut, cashews, sour milk, and flowers. It's all over the place, yes, but the mixture turns out pretty well. The taste holds notes of greens, flowers, watery walnuts, oak, and a light hoppy bitterness. The body is a light medium, with no real carbonation and a nice, lazy feel (like the namesake River at a certain waterpark...). On to the next PS casker...

After a couple glasses of the draft version, I thought I'd have a go with the cask during the World Cup match.
The beer still pours a copper amber color, but out of the cask the beer is slight hazy and has good head retention and considerable lacing. The nose is bit mute, though that may have been from how cold it was served (I guess for the American crowd, as normally I would not have expected cask bitter to be served at this temperature). Otherwise, once again, this beer has considerable flavor, consisting of light malt, cracker, pepper, light bitterness and slight cherry. This is a nicely balanced beer, and on cask there was a considerable creamy texture that I really liked. As with the draft version, drinkability is exceptional, with the alcohol barely more then an after thought.
A very nice beer and an absolute treat on cask.

Served on-tap at Frisco's in Columbia, Md.
A: Light amber color into a pint glass. The beer was somewhat hazy and had a 1/2 finger white head with medium retention and medium lacing.
S: Wheat, other earthy smells, and little bit of citrus.
T: Nice balance here. Not as bitter as I was expecting, with a hoppy presence in the background lending to a bitter, citrusy after taste. More of a wheat beer taste up front. A very nice beer for the summer.
M: On the lighter side, but with a nice level of carbonation and a crisp feel.
D: If I was outdoors and it was a warm summer day, given this beers low ABV and crisp taste, I could drink this all day long.
