Appearance: dark brown with a 1" head. Light lacing develops during the session.
Smell: mild chocolate and a hint of smokiness is pleasant on the nose.
Taste: nice malt base with a nice bit of chocolate overtones. Smokiness is enhancing here, not overpowering at all. Bitterness is mild but nicely balancing.
Mouthfeel: lightly crisp at the start, smooth and a hint of dryness late. Long lived aftertaste.
Overall: a tasty beer that is mild compared to other smoked porters, but hits the spot nicely. Not a bad anniversary beer.

On tap at Max's today. Oliver's anniversary smoked porter.
The beer pours a dark cola color with fairly good head retention and light lacing. The resonates of light sweet malt and burnt toast, with maybe a hint of bacon and vanilla as well. The flavor profile replicates the nose, though I'm impressed by how well balanced this beer is, and now easy drinking it is. There is some light sweetness, but it's not overdone, and the light smoke and light burnt toast keep in check very nicely. The beer is medium bodied to full, with a fairly long finish. There is some hoppy bitterness at the very end, which further helps to counter the sweetness in this beer. Drinkabilty is quite good... surprisingly good, given the flavor profile and style. This is an easy to enjoy/appreciate beer, one with plenty of flavor and manageable alcohol.
Very nice effort...
