This is a "never-to-be-redone" brew. The total weight of hops and malts added to this beer was 645 pounds. Brown sugar and juniper berries were also added. This version was oak-aged and served during the Chesapeake Real Ale Festival.

A - The body was a clearish red with two fingers worth of creamy, off white head...the head showed nice staying power and left patches of lacing

S - There was some subtle oak to the nose which made it pleasant...the part that I enjoyed was the amount of pine resin coming through...it smelled like walking through a Christmas tree farm

T - Again, there was a lot of fresh pine notes coming through...this had to be a result of the juniper berries along with all the American (and English, too) hops Steve added...the juniper berries add that extra kick and some subtle fruitiness...towards the finish the brown sugar comes out as soft caramel flavors

M - Medium bodied...smooth with a touch of creamy...has some chewiness to it...soft, sweet caramel...very fresh

O - It's too bad this one won't be made again...Steve did a nice job with this Imperial Red Ale...the addition of the hops and juniper berries really made a freshness to the beer...all the malt added body and balance...nicely done and congratulations on 3500 batches!
