On tap at Max's today. Listed as a raspberry tripel. From a brewer who's focus has been on English style ales? Hmmmm...
The beer pours a golden amber color with good head retention and lacing. On the nose, there's plenty of raspberry in the aroma profile, along with something of tropical punch and light honey aroma. On the palate, I think this beer is a complete trainwreck, and I guess it's a good thing I was told what this beer was supposed to be, as I wouldn't have guessed otherwise. This beer comes across as a strong, raspberry flavored wheat beer, one with a good dash of hoppy bitterness. The beer starts off quite sweet with considerable raspberry syrup, but with some wheat and bitterness on the finish. That helps to dry out the sweetness on the finish, but the combination of flavors is not good, and the noticeable alcoholic heat on the finish is not helping at all. Mouthfeel is pretty thin, and that's not helping matters either. Drinkability is poor... this beer comes across as an alcoholic mess, something I attribute to the poor mouthfeel, sweetness and noticeable alcohol.
Needless to say, this is not something I'll be ordering again any time soon. I'm generally a fan of most of the stuff I've had from Steve Jones at Olivers, but this is just not working for me.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
