Per the brewer: ""Ape Must Never Kill Ape" 3.3% abv dark ale with vanilla bean, fermented with Belgian yeast."
Had this on tap at The Big Hunt in Washington, DC. Served in a pint glass. I've been really wanting to have this one since I heard they brewed it, basically because of the amazing name/movie reference, and the fact that the ABV is so low.
a - Pours a deep dark amber brown color with one inch of off white head and moderate carbonation evident. Looks pretty nice.
s - Smell's of roasted malts, burnt malts, cream, light vanilla, bready malts, some spice, and Belgian yeast. Nice and malty, and the vanill beans seem to come through a bit as some cream. Very nice.
t - Tastes of roasted malts, cream, toasted malts, burnt malts, vanilla, a slight sour twang, Beglian yeast, and the tiniest bit of spice. Lots of cream again which is nice. The sourness is light and a tiny bit odd, but not bad.
m - Medium body, and much thicker and creamier then I expected it to be for such a low ABV. Low carbonation, super smooth and creamy. Great mouthfeel.
o - Overall a very nice session beer; much thicker and creamy then you would expect for the one ABV. Lots of cream to it; kind of reminded me more of a cream ale. A tiny bit of sourness in the taste but I liked it; worth checking out.
