Alban Elved, "The Light of the Water," the first day of Autumn, was also called Harvesthome. Observed on September 21, the Autumnal Equinox was the day when the sun again began to wane, as the dark half of the year drew near. As with the Vernal Equinox, day and night were of equal length across the planet. This balance in nature presented a powerful time for magic. To the ancients, this was a sacred time. The Irish saw this time of year as the Waning of the Goddess. From the Summer to the Winter Solstice, they would hold festivals for the God - who was seen as a dark, threatening being. To the Goidelic Celts, the spring was the time of joy in the rebirth of the Goddess. To Brythonic Celts, however, this was the time of the death of the God (the Sun or the Grain God).

Notes: Harvest ale. Biere aux houblons frais Quebécois. Hazy deep russet brown beneath an off-white head. Aroma of resinous hops and 'brown malt'. Lightly grassy and mildly herbal. Definitely resinous in the flavor, but balanced almost too perfectly (if that can be) by the bready malt. Gently caramelish. Median bitterness. Medium bodied and gently crisp. Remarkably drinkable.

Dark copper with a substantial head. Flavour is balanced, leaning more towards the malty side of the equation. Bready with a touch of caramel. The hops are grassy, with some citrus notes. The malts result in a slightly sweet finish. Enjoyable, but one cannot approach it looking for an American style pale ale. It tastes more English to me.

Bar Volo Cask Days 2010 post-days. CLoudy grapefruit colour, cask bubbles. Mild hop aromas. Decent bitterness, short of astringent. Good IBU and well malted. Above average mouthfeel. Good harvest ale. Just some near-astringent notes.Decent drinkability.
