A very strong beer brewed only once in honour of Dieu du Ciel’s 5th anniversary. It's a scotch ale and barley wine hybrid. Brewed in part with English smoked malt (smoked with peat moss), this beer was aged for several months in oak barrels previously used for the maturation of maple sap liquor produced by Domaine Acer. To the taste, it has a strong alcohol flavour rounded out with subtle fragrances of red fruit, caramel, smoke, maple, vanilla and oak. Since its production, this beer never ceases to amaze with its infallible capacity to age gracefully.

On cask at 6th anniversary, Has a nice frothy head this time, mostly white. Body is deep, mysterious orangey-brown. Lots of malt complexities in the aroma with vibrant cookie-like flavors and dry hopping notes (mildest grassy and earthy orange). Penetrating woodiness, spicy pepper grains and herbal characteristics. Sweet coating aftertaste to die for reminiscent of smoked maple and single malt scotch. Silkysmooth mouthfeel, oily and possessing the most diplomatic carbonation. Plug this cask straight into my veins.

Sampled this for the second time ever on 11sep2004. The first time around was a year ago almost to the day. They brewed this about a year and a half ago to celebrate their 5th anniversary, and put one out on cask for this year's anniversary.
Nice caramel colour, with light head that dissapeared rather quickly. The lighting was a little dim, but it still looked pretty good.
The smell was absolutely incredible, and the only words I can use to describe it would be Strawberry jam sticky hops with alcoholic overtones. The one I had a year ago didn't smell this good, the cask-aging did wonders on this one.
Taste is a perfect sweet malty start with mild but warm alcohol and a grassy hop finish and aftertaste. It was full and complex kinda like a Scotch Whisky (a friend of mine who knows his stuff compared the finish to a Laphroag, I havn't had one in a while so I couldn't concur). Mouthfeel was perhaps a little light compared to some of their more powerfull Barleywines, but worked really well with the smell and taste. Even though you could smell and taste the alcohol, it went down surprisingly well, and I treated myself to another later on in the evening, something I scarcely do here at Dieu du Ciel because the selection here is always top notch.
Truely one of their best brews, and just keeps getting better with age.

Amber color with a shy white head that slowly dissapeared and left itself upon my glass. A deep sense of many aromas such as cinnamon, cherry, with a tender touch of about "everything". Well hidden 10%+ content, Im just paying for it right now. A great beer!
