Clear amber-red with a creamy light tan head that leaves thick lacing.

Rich malts in the nose -- caramel and something darker and woodier that's hard to place.

Light smoke over rich caramel malts and a hint of molasses. A flash of alcohol. Nice slow-building bitterness in the aftertaste.

Light to medium bodied with low carbonation.

An excellent malt-forward beer.

 

 

 

Neutral amber with a notable cloudiness. Good lace but moderate head.

Dark malt with light hop in the nose.

I've grown to love Alt beers. They are different from American/British ales--almost a cross between hoppy pilsners and UK bitters.

In this one: Lots of hop from the initial sip to the finish. Of course, it becomes stronger as it approaches the swallow. Fuller bodied than I expected. Quite dry.

On tap at the brewpub.

Pours a clear reddish orange, some brown hues, thick off white head, very rocky looking, great retention, tons of lace, looks nice. Smell is iron, toffee, dark fruits, very clean and malty, oranges, grainy goodness. Taste is toffee and nuts, very malty and bready, orange, sweet finish, light bit of spice, rich and full flavour. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation, very smooth, best beer I had all night. Maybe they changed the recipe or this was a particularily good batch, because I thought this stuff was fantastic.

Tight tan head on top of a very clear, light chestnut beer. Mild, malty aroma that was composed mostly of breadiness and nuts, with a little chocolate thrown in. Crisp carbonation started things off, overall clean flavour with moderate bitterness and nutty malt. Dry and bitter finish with a bit of dark malt. High attenuation with medium carbonation. This is a highly drinkable beer, crisp and clean and great for summer.

Shazam! What a brew tour of Montreal...had to come to Quebec to get proper Marzens, Bohemians an German ales. This DdC Alt is a good one as well...tapped a dark copper color with a modest frothy cap...aromas are subtle but the Altbier earthy, musty, bready with light wisps of herbs was present. Medium bodied, creamy mouth feel, the great alt Biscuit malts come up front as the herbal woodsy hops ride in the back. Hops build in intensity and become bitter in the finish ...a very good Alt ale.

Apperance: Dark ruby red, with a slightly clumpy head that morphed into a decent ring.

Smell: lighly sweet, cereal with maybe a little saaz grassyness in the finish.

Taste: Biscuit grainy, a little fruity, mid to light mouthfeel. Carbonation perhaps a little too lively for the style, but then again the only reference for comparison I have is the gravity poured Dusseldorf alt I sampled at Üerige, which was a lot smoother.
Still, a good quaffable ale that I sample often when it hits the starting rotation at DDC.

Amber in color, didnt smell much at all, with a good head that liked to stick to my glass. The taste was a bit cerealic, reminding me of some macro ale not a lager.The body is thin, the hops and malt are shy in this beer, as I said, the cereal and wheat aromas get the big side of this beer.

A good beer, not my favorite from them

Not a bad brew, but how alty is it, I'm not sure. Pour was a medium clear amber, that came topped with a bubbly tan head. Clean aroma. Good mouthfeel overall, with tight carbonation. I found the taste to be rather biscuity with pronounced dryness in the finish. Looked for Alt characteristics, but didn't really find them with this one.
