Brasserie Dieu du Ciel! "Rigor Mortis Triple"
on tap at the brewery on 1 Octobre 2014
$5.75 / verre
Notes: Slightly hazy deep gold body beneath a short-lived head of off-white that drops to just a thin collar but leaves excellent lacing with solid walls that have rings embedded from each sip. Aroma: yeast with soft, dull, sweet apple and mild phenolics (clove, soft banana). Flavor: as suggested by the aroma with some added pear, grape, and an alcohol + bitter/raspy edge. Firm, stiff bitterness. It finishes dry with chalky yeast, a splash of alcohol, and dull apple.

Draft at the DDC pub in Montreal.
A: Pours a slightly hazy medium amber in colour with a solid 3 fingers of thick off-white head. Good retention and a solid amount of lacing around the glass.
S: Very sweet with overripe banana and stone fruit (mostly peaches) together with caramel, species and a noticeable alcohol presence.
T: Follows the smell with initial sweetness of stone fruits, banana, candi sugar following by spices and candied orange peel, biscuit and big alcohol presence.
M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
O: A very tasty and complex tripel, however purists will not enjoy the noticeable alcohol presence in the smell or taste.

Beer is amber, dark gold. Nice white head. Good retention.
Smell consists of sweet bread, honey, some yeast and some light fruit.
Taste involves some boozy caramel malt, Belgian yeast, light fruit (I get peach), and honey. Quite tasty.
Chewy, rich and full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Alcohol is noticeable.
Overall, quite a tasty tripel. Tastewise, I am between 4 and 4.5.

on tap at the brewpub, served in a tulip.
Pours a hazy golden, very thick white head forms, settles down to a solid ring around the glass, a few lace spots stick.
Smell is nice, big and boozy, spicey, some banana, very fruity, apricots and peaches, caramel and sugary sweetness, vanilla, alcohol, quite nice.
Taste is nice too, sweet up front, caramel/sugar, very fruity, banana, candi, vanilla spice, biscuit, orange peel, alcohol, sweet finish, goes down easy.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, a little thick for a tripel, medium to high carbonation, a bit of heat but quite nice.

This beer appears a slightly hazy medium straw colour, with a little thin white head, that leaves a bit of lace in its wake. It smells of yeast, banana, clove, and booze. The taste is sweet yeasty white grain, and sozzled white fleshy fruit. The carbonation is mild, the body smooth and gummy, and it finishes dry, and warm from a stewing fruit essence. An underlying metallic edge builds as the beer warms. I wouldn't really be motivated to have more than one.

Poured into a sam adams fancy pint glass.
One finger tan head, translucent amber body, head drops slowly. Smokey sweet nose, yum. Sweet Belgian yeast, perfect balance on the tongue, almost spicy, maybe holiday spice aftertaste. Very drinkable, great mouthfeel.
