Mondial 2005. Nice nearly opaque very very very very very very very very very dark blue (like priests socks sometimes are if you dont order them from the right catalogue!) Nice off-white head of foam caps off the brew, and provides nice lacing as well. Aromas are all dark roasted black patent malts a bit of smoke, coffee, and maybe some dark bakers chocolate. Taste is similar with some smoky notes for sure, but just not over-the-top smoke. Finish has maybe a hint of vanilla or caramel as well if you look really hard for it. Mouthfeel is smooth and a bit heavy, and drinkability is very nice. A different beer from last years Revenante I suppose. I think that one was smokier and a bit better!

Sample at the Mondiale 2005: Poured a pitch black color ale with a huge dark beige head with good retention. Aroma is dominated by the smoke malt (smoke by the brewer himself) and even thought the smoke is clearly present, it is not as strong as Schlenkerla. Taste is quite enjoyable with porter like roastiness and bitterness mixing quite well with the smoke malt. Good stuff!!!
