Bottle. Creamy tan head. Black color.

Super creamy and rich. Big roasted flavor with a ton of espresso flavor. Chocolate, caramel, and a hint of vanilla. Light alcohol shows. Dry in the finish. Really fun to try.

Got this one from Pino this past summer. Cheers!

From a bottle into a snifter
Bottled 18 November 2016

APPEARANCE: Pours out pitch black and yields a two finger, medium looking, creamy, dark tan head with great retention. Black body with no carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a full wisp and clings to the sides of the glass. A faint wisp remains leaving touches of lacing on the glass as it empties.

SMELL: Good nose and plenty forthcoming. Lots of creamy, roasted coffee, light vanilla, nuts, caramel and toffee with hints of leather as well.

TASTE: Caramel, toffee, leather, coffee flavors and some roasted notes up front. Bolder finish of vanilla, a good dose of sweet cream, nuts, coffee, burnt flavors and some leather as well. Lots of coffee, dark chocolate and vanilla with a touch of bitterness and some alcohol lingering on the palate. World class stuff.

PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Enough weight, semi-creamy, goes down fine and finishes a bit dry. A good dose of bitterness lingers.

OVERALL: This is just as good as the regular Peche Mortel. Quality stuff and very enjoyable to drink. I’d have to try them side-by-side, but my initial impression is that this is not much different to the original. Still, good stuff and well worth checking out. Cheers, pino!

Poured from fridge temp. Pours jet black with a nice dark head. Bubbles lace the glass and take about 5 min to fully dissipate. Nose is huge coffee and chocolate. Really decadent. Also getting vanilla and faint molasses. Taste is so creamy and smooth. Slight bitterness from the coffee, but it's perfect. I like this version more than the regular. Coffee is really vibrant. Getting some tobacco and licorice notes. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy - perfect balance.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of floral coffee notes with light dry bitter roasted malt notes. Taste is a mix of floral coffee notes with some dry bitter roasted malt notes with light hints of lactose and some black chocolate notes. Body is full with good carbonation. Very enjoyable with coffee notes are maybe a tad more refined then the regular version.

On tap at the de Garde brewing tasting room today.

The beer pours a blackish brown color with excellent head retention and pretty decent lacing. As one would expect, there is considerable coffee in the nose (not as much as one gets in the Tired Hands coffee stout, but still, there's a lot of coffee in the nose), along with vanilla, dark chocolate and a hint of licorice. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely, though the coffee isn't quite as intense. Mouthfeel is soft and creamy, and there's no doubt this beer delivers plenty of flavor. There's some bitterness inn the finish that I thought was interesting. It almost seemed as if the bitterness came from freshly ground coffee beans. It's the only reason I don't give the mouthfeel for this beer a higher score (as the bitterness seemed to mar the beer's drinkability just a tad). Alcohol is well integrated into the flavor profile, and I think it helps that the abv. is a fairly reasonable 9.5%.

Very nice beer for sure, though I think I still prefer the original Peche Mortel recipe

On nitro. Unlike the last couple of years, this one does not taste notably different to me. It remains a very good coffee stout, but the change in coffee isn't obvious to me. Maybe if I had them side by side.

A:
Pours a thick pitch black with three fingers of solid khaki head settles to a creamy topo map then a film/ring. Awesome retention; sticky, gloppy, concentric lacing sheets. (4.25)

S:
Nutty roasty coffee. Oily roast nuts, hard water, cocoa powder, light coffee/malt berries flavor and a really assertive, clean coffee aroma that really pops out just after giving her a swirl. (4.5)

T:
Soft, big fruity coffee/roast wave through your mouth and down your throat. Coffee, blueberries, nuts, baker's chocolate, espresso crema, cream, maply/whiskey-like sweetness. (4.5)

M:
Creamy and damn-near as good as it gets for a stout like this. Smooth, little detectable alcohol, light carbonation. (4.5)

O:
Really great take on a really great beer.
The coffee is definitely different. It tastes much fruitier and nuttier than the standard PM does to me. It is a beauty in the glass, with an aroma and flavor that are nutty, robust and, interestingly, fruity (berries/dark fruits), still with tons of rich, lovely coffee, though. On the whole it is predominately rich coffee with highlights of clean, earthy fruitiness. Very enjoyable, entirely too drinkable, delicious. (4.5)

On tap at Row 34 in Boston, the day after Peche Day 2017.

Pours a solid black with a soft brown head.

The smell is COFFEE! A bit of licorice and chocolate, but the Joe is the star here.

The taste is huge, and the coffee shines again. The licorice is there, as well, along with some great roasted malt. Top level stuff.

Mouthfeel is the only slight drawback for me. Just a tad too thin, but still very good.

Man, this hits all the coffee notes a coffee stout should. If it was a little thicker, it would be world class to me.
