Pours black with a finger and a half of khaki foam. Aroma is coffee and chocolate with smooth whiskey right underneath. Whiskey is thin compared to the chocolate and coffee, which brings the added bonus of not being 'hot'. Roasty and toasty malts are the heavy malt notes, with more subtle earthy and caramely malts underneath. Flavor profile is chocolate and coffee, with more aggressive whiskey than what is experienced in the aroma. Whiskey has that classic Irish undertone, bringing with it heavy malts. Beer malt notes come by way of roasty and toasty, with light caramely malts. It is slightly hot in the mid-point, but cools off after this flash point. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a fuzzy texture. The texture flattens out slightly at the finish. Overall, a heavy coffee and chocolate stout with forward whiskey. It nails the base beer notes, and still manages to showcase Jameson whiskey.

Served in a 15.5oz Spiegelau tulip from a 12oz bottle. Bottled on 2019-06-07. Consumed/reviewed on 10/10/2022.

Good head production and retention, especially given the ABV, barrel aging, and a nearly two year old bottle of beer.

Nose is a wonderful and potent blend of coffee, whiskey, and strong notes of roasted malt: chocolate, molasses, licorice, and caramel.

Flavor follows. It lacks some of the rich sweetness of bourbon, instead bringing the slightly more neutral mash of Irish Whiskey. This is complementary with the coffee and malt notes, although I suspect the bourbon-aged variant is even more impressive. Lovely bitterness and roastiness. The base beer comes through very well, albeit slightly less rich and thick, no doubt due in part to the effect of the whiskey.

Tasting notes include whiskey, grain, coffee, bitter chocolate, coffee, molasses, cherry, red grape, oak, and vanilla.

This is an excellent take on one of the best coffee stouts in the world. It makes me even more excited for the potential of the bourbon barrel aged version, as while this works very, very well, it's not quite a perfect marriage of barrel and beer.

Peche Mortel Jameson from Dieu du Ceil. Received 341 mL bottle in a Ninja strike from @Coronaeus. Stored at home at 40 degrees. Reviewed 6/10/21. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Bottle dated on rear label “2020-05-26 13:08 LOT:002”. Served at 57 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 63.5 degrees.
Appearance – 4.25
First pour – Amber Brown (SRM 18), clear.
Body – Ruby brown (SRM 24), opaque. When rear-lite, ruby at the edges.
Head – Large (Maximum 4.5 cm, aggressive center pour), initial coloration brown sugar but fades to desert sand, high density, average retention, leaving an undulating four to eleven mm crown of tiny bubbles and a complete rocky cap.
Lacing – Good. Tight band of tiny bubbles – particularly good for the ABV.
Aroma – 3 – Weakly cocoa, no malt, no hops, no yeast, no whiskey.
Flavor – 4 – Begins with sweet light cocoa, no malt, no hops, no yeast, no oak. Weak coffee flavor. No ethanol (9.5% ABV, as marked on container) taste or aroma. Gastric warming occurs immediately following each swallow, a ghost of vanilla on the exhale. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 4.5 – Medium, almost creamy, soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 4 Cocoa goodness without the oily Jameson taste. Probably more expensive than the Peche Mortel base but, to me, not worth the price point. Still good (It’s a Peche Mortel, after all!) but not exceptional as is the BBA version.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of strong Irish whiskey notes with some black chocolate and faint coffee notes is enjoyable. Taste is also a mix of strong Irish whiskey notes with some black cholate notes, light residual sugar and faint coffee notes. Body is pretty full with good carbonation and some alcohol notes are also perceptible. Enjoyable but barrel is maybe tad overpowering and hides some of the nice coffee notes from the base beer.

341 ml. bottle.
Bottled 2019-06-07.
Moderate pour yields a 3/4 inch tan head over a near black body with sticky lacing. Nose of roasted malt, coffee and whisky. As it warms, a bit of smoky, charred oak and dark fruit comes forward. Taste of chocolate, coffee, whisky, oak, vanilla, and dark fruit. Wow, what a delicious treat! Very nice feel, and overall, yet another wonderful barrel aged Peche Mortel from our friends up over the border. Cheers to DdC!
