The Double Triple is our "New World" interpretation of the Tripel, a classic abbey-style belgian ale. It is indeed a trend in North America to bring certain styles of beer to their extreme, and tag them as "Double", everything in this beer being exaggerated (mostly bitterness and alcohol) when compared to the original style.

In Dieu du Ciel's Double Triple, the beer is very strong and the presence of alcohol is evident in the smell as well as in the taste of the beer. Pronounced hops aromas are also present, due to dry hopping. The whole is completed and well balanced by a strong bitterness, the usual spicy and fruity aromas of a Tripel, good malt body and and a lightly sweet finishing touch.

Had on tap at their brewpub in Montreal.

A - golden in color with a one-finger head

S - fruits...apples, pears

T - out of this world! I had to order a second glass just to make sure that the first one was that good.

M - smooth and delicious, some carbonation

Drinkability is a 10, if the scale went that high.

I am hoping that DDC bottles this beer. If anyone is ever in Montreal, you have to visit their brewpub.

At Mondial 2008, their biere du Mondial.

Pours a hazed golden, thin off white head forms, drops to a thin ring, leaves some lace spots. Smell is awesome, hoppy and floral, honey/caramel sweetness, alcohol, spice, yeast, a bit of fruit, grapefruit. Taste is honey and spices, alcohol, rich bread, very malty middle, tons of fruit shows itself, strawberries and rhubarb, spicy bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation, some warmth but very drinkable for the ABV. I loved this, thought it was kind of a mix between a tripel and a double IPA. Had a couple glasses of it.

A special beer made for the 15th anniversary of Mondial.

A-Golden yellow with a thin white head that left spotty lacing.

S-Typical Belgian yeasty aroma with a bit of apple?

T-Nice and rich with a good tartness. Nice typical flavours from this hearty triple. Yeast character very present.

M-Medium body and smooth with a bit of stickiness. A bit of lingering tartness.

D-For a brew clocking in at 11.5% this is pretty easy to drink. A good sipper.

Enjoyed at the Mondiale 2008. Special Mondiale 15th anniversary brew. A yeasty aroma, a good mouthfeel with a tart finish, sour but not mouth-puckering. Dot lace and carbonation bubbles rise in the golden-yellow colour, with a bit of crowning white head. Very good drinkablity. An above-average Belgian.
