A quiet place across the street from glbc. You walk in to a laid back atomsphere. Soft warm lights play in the room. The is a long bar against the right wall and seating around the bar. We were quickly seated and given menus. The wine list was about 4 long 18 in pages, the beer list was an entire sheet packed pretty solid. There were some crafts and domestics but also a lot of belgian beers and beers from other nations. Not being from ohio I don't know how readily available some of the beers are but there were a lot that I hadn't seen before. The pricing was very reasonable for what you got. We did not eat there but the menu appeared to be appetizer like with spreads and cheeses. The service was very good. Being from out of town the employees went out of there way to suggest places to go and where to eat and drink. I was very impressed by that.

So decided to go here for a glass of wine actually after the BA Blackout and Jim Beam tasting. This is a damn cool little botique wine bar. Rich woodwork and a winelist that is easy for anyone to choose from. There beer selection was very formidable as well. Many offering both craft and import.

The service was top notch as the bartender let us sample any wine we wanted and was very helpful to others around us. Although I did not eat here what cheese, bread, and fruit trays I saw people dining on were quite impressive. I wish this place were in Dayton because I would spend many of paychecks here. Actually I guess it's better it's not in Dayton.

Market Avenue Wine Bar is right next door to the Great Lakes Brewpub. It is small, so it could easily be passed by. Don't make that mistake. We went in to kill some time between the GLBC brewery tour, and dinner that evening. The Wine Bar is a small cozy place. A few tables and seats at the bar, with some jazzy music playing in the background. Yes, wine is the specialty here, but the beer list is very nice, and well thought out. You will find some Belgians, German, and American craft. From what I remember, they has Deus, Hanssens, Liefman's and Chapeau, a rauchbeer along with beers from Dogfish and Bell's. The place became crowded, and only one woman was working, however she did a teriffic job. A menu of appetizers is available. We had a plate of prosciutto, two cheeses and fresh fruit, and warm bread, which went great with some lambic. This was a nice cozy stop, that if you are in the area for GLBC, you should certainly check out.

here's the story.. wandered out of great lakes brewing company, and the lady says: "let's go get some wine! we went to the beer place, now some wine!" ok, fine. as i pass the glass window, i see a gentleman sitting at a small table with a nice chalice and a bomber of arrogant bastard. "ok," i said, "anything for you, honey."

get the wine out of the way first (and quick)- great selection, if you have a wine friend sick of beering it up with you, great place for both of you.

decor is amazing. very dark with bottles of wine and carved wood and brick lining the walls. cozy tables and a 12 or so seat bar. mirrors and glasses give it a bar feel, but the atmosphere is a little more quiet and serene. not fancy, most people had jeans and t-shirts on and were relaxed and comfortable.

service was top notch. friendly, younger bartenders who knew their beer and wine. i left there with great recommendations for beer stores, sushi joints, and sightseeing (all written down). when she had a question about a store's hours, she took a poll of all the customers out loud, everyone responded in tandem.

the food: AWESOME. appetizers only, but stuff that goes with beer. a make-your-own cheese and fruit plate with selections up and down the spectrum. mini pizzas! from the casual pub fare to the glamorous.

the beer. take out and drink in. everything is served at cellar temperature minus a few beers like oberon. everything served in an oversized wine glass or brandy snifter. fine by me. things i wrote down that struck me as "good choices" were: arabier, xx de ranke, hanssens kriek, lia fail, weistephaner hefe, blithering idiot, and bell's double cream. probably 20-30 more on top of that.

i have absolutely no criticisms for this place except maybe get rid of the wine (selfish). i took a bottle to go.. they charge retail price + 10% for take out, and she gift-wrapped the bottle for me as a goof. awesome place and a great stop after GLBC.
