On-tap at L'Amère à Boire, Montréal, QC, Canada

A: The beer is jet black in color and poured with a three finger high creamy tan head that gradually died down, transitioning to a short head.
S: Light aromas of coffee beans are present in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of dark malts along with notes of chocolate. There are faint bits of roastiness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and very smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very easy to drink because the nitrogen helps to lighten up the mouthfeel.

Serving type: nitro-tap

A black beverage with read hints, a tan even small bubbled head with good lacing and curtains.

Burned notes, black malt, dried dark fruits.

Starting very sweet, brown sugar, dates, chocolate, red berries.

Low carbonation, a slightly coarse texture yet oily, a dry finish.

Very nice dessert, sweet as an american porter, but potent and fulfilling.

Had this on tap at the L'Amère à Boire brewpub on St. Denis in Montreal. Paired it with a very tasty burger
A - nice thick looking black beer with thick white head.
S - German sweet chocolate
T - Tasted like i was drinking a dark chocolate mocha milk shake. Overall kind of sweet but it was balanced perfectly with the hops so that it was not a dessert beer. Not too roasted. This overall flavor was not too complex but it tasted amazing. This is one of the cases where simplicity works.
M - Like a milkshake
D - Too Drinkable

This pint arrives on the bar, and appears black, with slight reddish edges, and a finger of creamy beige head, that leaves little lace. It smells of roasted malt, chocolate, and mild coffee. The taste is thin chocolate malt, and some mild cafe au lait. The carbonation is light, the body not quite adequately hefty, and it finishes quite dry, powdered chocolate lingering. The elevated ABV is seemlessly integrated.

A decent, but not overly memorable RIS.

On tap at L'amerie a boire, Montreal.

Poured a deep black hue with a one finger creamy off white head. There was very good retention and lacing.

The smell featured burnt grains, coffee and a strak of sweet malts.

The taste consisted of cocoa, charcoal and burnt grain flavors with a bit of lactose sweetness.

The mouthfeel was of average fullness for the style.

Overall a delicious stout. Very user friendly and very drinkable for the style.

A-Deep black with a medium thick and creamy head which was VERY long lasting.

S-Some roat and a bit of alcohol burn....not very aromatic.

T-Sweet and rich with some notes of raisins. Nice notes of dark roasted malt and a bit of espresso.

M-Medium-heavy body. Silky, rich and creamy, very nice! This is by far the best feature of this brew.

D-Smooth and easy to drink. Certainly not the biggest or best RIS I have had but this is a solid beer. The mouthfeel is absolutely crazy, IMHO.

Dark black body with a smooth beige head that hangs around for most of the drink. Coffee and cocoa nose.Treacle and dark chocolate in the flavour, with nice hints of dark fruit and rasins. Warming alcohol finish paired a viscous oily mouthfeel help to make this one a winner.

I had the pleasure of drinking this fine beer late Saturday night during my last trip to Montreal, in the good company of TheLongBeachBum and ErikTheRed. I wasn't all that impressed with the other beers I tried here earlier in the day so I went with what I figured I could count on to be a good choice. I was right! This Stout Imperial was served on nitro, so it was very pretty. The beer was black with a super thick, creamy, off-white head. It smelled a little musty actually, which made me nervous about how it would taste. Then again, I suppose there's usually less of an aroma when a beer is on nitro. But really I didn't get much of anything in the nose except like a closed-up attic. Thankfully it tasted much better. This beer was sooo creamy. And very roasty. So, cappuccino-ish I suppose, but it didn't have much of an actual coffee taste. Just a general roasted flavor, with some creamy milk chocolate thrown in there. I loved this beer! Simple yet completely satisfying for an imperial stout. Mouthfeel was thick like a milkshake. Drinkability was very very good, but on the strong side. I had this at the end of the night after a tasting party, plus the bar staff was kind of kicking us out, so I didn't have an opportunity to drink loads of this, but if I ended up in Montreal on a cold winter afternoon and/or evening, this would be my beer of choice. Highly recommended.

The clear winner in the lineup, not that there was a bad one here. Coffee aroma. Thick Chocolatey, creamy, from nitro tap. Beautiful black with mocha head. Taste which is roasty and a touch of smoke and expresso certainly covers alcohol. Full mouthfeel. A nice after dinner drink.
Had again 6 years and something later, and not too thick as an IS is today. Big coffee.

This beer is a completely opaque brown/black with a dense head the colour of coffee froth. Excellent retention and good lacing as well. Looks intimidating. Intense malty and fruity aroma that's slightly vinous and has plenty of roasted malt and coffee character, as well as a bit of dark chocolate thrown in. Low bitterness that didn't quite balance out the intense malty, almost lactose, sweetness. Some ripe fruitiness appeared part-way through. The finish was off-dry with light roastiness and some bitterness from the dark malts. Heavy body with a creamy texture and slight astringency. I'd say this is a fair imperial stout that needs a little work to get things right. Not a bad beer, but better balance between malt sweetness and hop bitterness, as well as reducing the astringency, would go a long way.
