Swampy brown with a small fading head that leaves a touch of lace.

Honey, molases, dark roasted malts and some decent yeasty notes up in this bitch.

Taste is initially sweet - honey, candy sugar, pale malts. Through the middle is some delicious raw roasted malts - suggestions of an English stout. Pale malts fade back in towards the end with some gentle grainy sweetness. Had I got more of the roasted malt, this would've been quite interesting. The hint that is there is good.

Feel is medium with some champagne like carbonation. Maybe lingers a tad astringent.

Not bad.

Poured from 33cl bottle. On the bottle it claims to be an amber. It has wheat on its list of ingredients.

Lots of yeast in the bottle - I tried to pour carefully but I've got plenty of floaties in my glass. Not much head due to slow pour, but there is some with some signs of lacing. Cloudy, and light brown rather than amber.

Smells earthy, like a cellar or a wooden barrel. The taste is rich with maltiness and caramel flavors. Maybe a hint of plum flavor, or molasses. The beer is smooth, with a clean finish. The bitterness is light but present, and there are only very subtle hop flavor or aroma characteristics.

It's an interesting beer, really concentrating on malt flavors without being sweet.

Beer bottle (33cl. and 75cl.), tasted in 2002.

Appearance : amber color, with huge foam head.
Smell : slightly malty and fruity aromas.
Taste and mouthfeel : the malty taste persists, a small hint of bitterness in finish.
Drinkability : a good bio beer in the style "bière de garde".
