A bottle-conditioned Best Bitter, the beer is said to be brewed on the basis of Nelson's Spring Pride recipe and to mark the 1400th anniversary of the founding of Rochester Cathedral. Using floor malted barley and whole Kentish hops, this beer comes in a brown, 500ml bottle and its Best Before Date column is empty.(?) I'm rather suspicious...
Appearance: very beautiful ruby to copper colour in a goblet, it pours with a very thin, off-white beerhead and retrained carbonation. The hue is just beautiful...
Smell: extremely aromatic and fruity hops on nose, combined with refreshing nutty aroma of barley.
Taste & Aftertaste: first approaching is slightly tart, black-plummy and roast-nutty malty taste; in the finish one could find averagely lasting nutty bitterness which is rather flat on the palate.
Mouthfeel: Without a complex structure, the palate sits opposite to the rather colourful and interesting nose of this beer. The overall body is too thin for me and the mouthfeel not as rich as its nose suggests, but it's still an interesting brew in its own class.
