Supremely black with ruby highlights, but not much in terms of head. Lots of coffee and toffee in the nose, with a hint of smoke. Nicely burnt-smelling and chocolatey and stout. Mild and tangy to taste; most of the stout flavors erupt just before the finish in a cymbal crash of chocolate, coffee, almonds, and dark roasted grain. But except for that moment of robustness, this beer doesn't taste of much. Finish is clean with a lightly lingering espresso bitterness. Oily yet thin, clean, and dry on the palate. This is a decent stout - nothing amazing or even great, but respectably tasty.
