Served on cask at Goose Island Clybourn in a 16oz pint glass. Enjoyed on 12.22.2014, reviewed from notes.

The beer pours a nice black color, note quite jet black, some obvious brown tones, very opaque with a thick, creamy, khaki head, solid finger and a half that has fantastic retention and yields giant swatches of stick, soapy lace, a beauty to behold. The aroma is really pleasant, light cocoa, smooth oats and chocolate malts and a touch of coffee roast, really simple and straightforward, but balanced and to the point. The flavors mirror well, smooth malt, toasted oats, coffee and cocoa come out, lightly bittersweet with some pitted stone fruit and a creaminess that goes nicely with the chocolate. Again, super simple, but there is a nice balance and and a really nice ease when drinking this, clean and borderline refreshing. The mouthfeel is quite nice, very smooth and soft, creamy and coating, the cask is a great treatment and the finish is easy though a bit thinner than I'd prefer.

Verdict: A really enjoyable oatmeal stout, and the cask treatment was a definite plus. It's simple but balanced, definitely a great low ABV stout, perfect for the winter season.
