Poured pitch black with a thin tan head. Oily, viscous, and delicious looking.

Smell was an incredible blend of chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, and some oaky character.

Taste was chocolatey, boozy, tons of bourbon, vanilla, caramel and slight oak notes.

Feel was a bit thin, especially when compared to other Bourbon Counties. Smooth, velvety, not much carbonation, but slightly dry which was really nice.

Overall I loved this - glad to come across it. I'd happily have this again if I ever come across it again.

2/19/16 Chicago - (6 oz $8 pour into snifter at Goose Island Tap Room). Pitch black pour, thin tan head and lacing. Excellent scents of bourbon whiskey, vanilla, chocolate. Taste excellent, let it sit to draw out the various flavors. Less sweet and thiner than the average BCS, though it didn't detract from the enjoyment. Liked the bourbon blend tastes, extremely pleasant sipping and enjoying. Nice smooth finish and going down. Overall excellent blend and I'm glad I stopped by the Tap Room for two servings. Hope to see more of these offerings in the future as the production of BC expands due to insane demand.

A blend of BCS '10-14, Prop '13, Templeton Rye '13-14, Koval '12, Barleywine '14, Wild Turkey '14, and Vanilla Rye.

Probably one of my favorite recent beer concepts; I don't want to know how/why all the above beers came together, but it's a cool idea, and a fun beer to try.

On tap at the GI Fulton taproom. The beer appears to be a standard BCS variant, perhaps a little lighter in color than BCS itself, and seemingly with less of the beautiful coffee brown head that I love so much. Smell is pretty similar as well (you don't pick up much of the adjunct variants), perhaps a little more vanilla on the nose.

Taking a sip, this is a slightly more chocolatey, sweeter BCS. I've seen this described as Baudoinia-like, and while that's not inaccurate, this isn't quite as chocolatey, but it's slightly more complex. I would imagine that the integration of variants, some of which were aged in rye barrels is to blame for the mouthfeel not being quite as thick as regular BCS, and is one of the few flaws I can find in the beer.

Is this my favorite BCS "variant" (if you can call it that)? No. Do I prefer it to regular BCS? Yes. 2014 BCS is my all-time favorite vintage of the regular, and this stuff is slightly more complex while retaining the sweetness that was a hallmark of '14 (although it might be slightly thinner than '14; been a while since I had it).

Very cool to try, and very interesting to see how similar, yet subtly different from regular BCS this is. Definitely something I'd have again if given the chance, but not worth losing your mind over in the crowded BA stout market. Still, an awesome beer for GI to throw on tap, and something that makes me excited for the future of one-offs in the taproom.
