6/19/17 (Chicago) 765 ML Bottled 6/9/16, poured into large beer stein. Cloudy copper pour, generous bubbly cloud white head. Tart sweet grape aroma. Taste very sweet, malt taste, very light body, very easy drinking. Good beer, though I prefer beers not this sweet.

Pale to medium amber in color with an impressive degree of clarity, an off-white head, and decent retention. Brewery Yard is an attractive beer in the glass, to be sure. In the nose, its oaky barrel character makes itself known immediately, as does the presence of Brett. Sweet, jammy marmalade, overripe pineapple, faint barnyard notes, and a leathery trace of oxidation interweave and mingle with each other. The body is ever-so-slightly lighter than expected, but still falls in medium territory. Flavor-wise this Stock Pale Ale is sharp and somewhat acetic with a surprising degree of leafy, herbal bitterness (though the bottle does specify 62 IBU). There are also suggestions of bitter orange, not unlike a triple sec, and a dryness that encourages sip after sip, but a sneaky 8.4% ABV will catch up with you. Interesting and distinctive, this antique ale comes across as decidedly modern.
