1/1/17 (Chicago Goose Island Brewpub - $6 5 oz pour into snifter). Happy New Year!!! First pour of 2017. Mahogany colour pour, bourbon and fruity wine aroma. Dark black with thin loose tan lacing. Fruity sweet wine taste, mild carbonation, easy smooth drinking. Overall very good beer.

2016 silver wax clybourn bottle
Caramel brown color. Light tan head.
Caramel, toffee, figs, molasses, oak, vanilla, and bourbon.
A nice old ale, but a little light in body. Nice barrel presence.

Apparently this is an old ale. Tastes like an extremely oxidized old ale. Cola, cardboard, hints of chocolate, vanilla and oak. Woody dry finish. Lower end of the sweetness spectrum. Bleh. It's really not that good, but could be worse.

Not much to say on this one; had it on tap at the Clybourn brewpub, but it's definitely nothing special for that barrel program, in my opinion. It's a barrel-aged English old ale, and it tastes exactly like you'd expect. Perfectly decent, but I'd actually rather the ale itself have been left out of out of the bourbon barrels, and have let said barrel go towards something a little heavier. As-is, I find myself wanting portions of this beer in two different beers.
