Had an extra hour and stopped by GI Clybourn - I think this was supposed to be 5 oz out of a snifter but the pour was more like a 8 oz (no complaints).
L: Black with a tan creamy head that stays around for a long time.
S: I expected candy cane, because that's what the beer is called. And it is definitely intense. I liked it, but just a tad bit too much. Whatever, it's the smell and I don't care that much about that.
T: The candy cane isn't quite as intense in the taste, and it really mixes well with what is a really full stout.
M: Very full, and I have to say the peppermint flavor integrates really well.

GI is out of Cthulhu, so for their holiday toy drive this year, they turned to BA Dark Crusader for the base of their yearly candy cane brew. Good choice.

The full, flavorful base integrates well with the candy cane, and stops it from being too overwhelming. Sweet, roasty, with a nice hop character in the background, this might be the best peppermint beer I've ever had, possibly besting the first CC Cthulhu I had a few years back. There's a reason this is one of my most anticipated releases of the year.
