Drawing inspiration from Elk Mountain Farms, our hop farm located on the 49th parallel in Idaho, we crafted an Imperial IPA with Chinook, Cascade, Amarillo, Galaxy, and Calypso. Big hop flavor and complex citrus aromas built on a strong malt foundation.

Muddled caramel colored bottle pour with a 1 cm foam cap. The aroma is of sweet toffee. The flavor is very much like a young barley wine. This may be due, in part, to an age-related diminished hop presence, but the brew is both very sweet and has high alcohol heat. The finish is sticky, but okay.

Pours a clear copper color. 5/4 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and decent lacing. Smells of hop oils, spicy hops, slight alcohol, floral hops, sweet malt, hint of rye, and a hint of tea. Fits the style of an American Double / Imperial IPA. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of hop oils, spicy hops, slight alcohol, floral hops, sweet malt, hint of rye, hint of fruit, and a hint of tea. Overall, good appearance, body, blend, and complexity.

It was on sale at Downtown Crown at Rio in Gaithersburg. In a lot of places 9.99 for a sixer of DIPA is not notable but in MOCo it is a total steal.
Big rocky head in my mug. Also features a straight clear amber body and plenty of pine and medicinal hops.
There is solid balance but the noble hop and pine tones shine through well into the aftertaste, with a strong medicinal hue. A little raw and boozy but to me this is a solid, middle of the road DIPA. Not a ton of craftsmanship here but it gets its point across and delivers its payload, which is at least part of why we drink, is it not?

A - Slightly cloudy golden amber pour. Finger of head that sticks around.
S - Smells of citrus up front, a little bready. Tropical esters.
T - Fruity/hoppy at the outset, but after it warmed up it almost took on a minty quality. Very nice though.
M - Full bodied for sure, but not overly carbonated.
O - I really liked this take by GI. The minty/penetrating quality that it took on at the end when it was warm was very interesting. I'd get more for sure and recommend that you try it.
