I had this one on tap at the Goose Island Clybourn pub on 2/21/2009.

A= Poured to the rim of a short snifter, this ale was a deep dark black/brown color with pretty much zero head. No light penetration on this one.

S= The aroma was absolutely incredible. Rich espresso coffee coupled with malty bittersweet stout, wood barrel, vanilla, and a boozy bourbon character.

T= I was stunned by the flavors in this beer. It started out very heavy on the bitter coffee dark chocolate flavors, then suddenly morphed into a soft vanilla, wood, and bourbon character. Axtremely complex and seemed to reveal a different nuance with every swallow. Finish was smooth and possessed at slight alcohol warmth.

MF= Full bodied with a moderate carbonation feel. Not one I would call creamy, but certainly fairly soft on the tongue.

D= Though this was a heavy beer with big flavors, I could have drank at least 2-3 if that was all I was drinking. Incredible beer with incredible flavor!

Billed as an R.I.S. aged in bourbon barrels for 26 weeks and aged on whole coffee beans. 9+ % ABV.

Had on-tap at the Clybourn pub tonight. Served into a snifter.

Appearance was like pitch black motor oil. Thick and viscous, with no visible head whatsoever. Stayed that way throughout.

Aroma was wonderful. Tons of fresh coffee beans in the nose, with bourbon and vanilla complexity from the barrel aging. A touch of molasses but the coffee and bourbon dominate.

Taste was even better. A big punch in the face of coffee right at the start with a bit of dark chocolate coming through as well. Midway through the vanilla character comes out then is joined by the bourbon which lingers into the finish with some burnt roast and coffee flavors.

Mouthfeel was quite full bodied, smooth and soft, but it could have possibly benefited from a slightly higher level of carbonation to create more creaminess.

This was one of the best R.I.S. I've had yet. It's basically Bourbon County Stout with coffee added. At first I thought it was but on the menu it was listed as having 9+ ABV. Stop in and get some of this before it's gone.
