Goose Island Brewhouse "Fly-PA"
Look: It's hazy golden-orange body in the full glass reveals that it's actually more straw gold when held to the light. The short but creamy head of white holds fairly well and leaves some spots and streaks of lacing behind.
Smell: It's unfortunately quite yeasty - as in actual yeast - which is really distracting. I know they used oats to brew this to help get it hazy, but just leaving the yeast in it to give it haze is not a good idea. Beyond that there's some basic malt, and a smattering of citrusy hops but... if the hops aren't even strong enough to overcome the yeast then is it really an IPA? And I should note, it is listed as an IPA even though it's just 5.2% ABV. Usually when that happens they've labeled it as an IPA because it's got a lot of hops to it ~ that's not the case here.
Taste: The yeast doesn't come through as much in the flavor but it remains, especially in the finish. It tastes like green beer through and through. The hops offer citrus/tropical notes that include some lemon, tangerine, and peach. It's got a median bitterness to it, and it finishes dry with a lingering bitterness. Sadly, it lacks hops in the flavor almost as much as it does in the aroma.
Feel: Standard. Medium-light in body with a gentle crispness from a fine-bubbled carbonation.
Overall: Fairly disastrous all around.
