Notes:
Barrel Aged Wheat Ale
This is our original 312 barrel aged for 4 weeks in a Ch Distillery Malort Cask. CH Distillery brought Malort production back home to Chicago, and we were lucky enough to get our hands on a cask of it. Like a good Malort shot, we won’t tell you what this tastes like. You just have to try it. Then show us your Malort face.

Pours a crystal clear burnished copper color. Thick three-finger frothy off-white head forms on the beer upon pouring, then steadily collapses leaving no residual head. Aroma has notes of oak, pine, and some bitter spice notes - the malört coming through on the nose. There is a touch of sweetness on the nose reminiscent of a light vanilla note. Interesting aroma overall ... I'm kind of apprehensive as to what this is going to taste like.
The taste has notes of orange, pine, grapefruit, wood, oak, wormwood, giving way to a malört blast on the back end that is herbally bitter with some bitter hop notes. Its weird, unique and as someone who likes malört ... its actually pretty nice. The underlying beer is "light" enough that it allows the malört to really shine through. Feel is light, smooth with rounded edges from that aging. Light, smooth carbonation.
Overall this is one of those beers that I suspect most people would end up hating, but I dig it. Its weird, but sometimes weird is good and fun.
