Sweet & Spicy Stout - 8.1% ABV
Guajillo chiles and Terra Spice cocoa nibs. Collaborated with Allie and Rob Levitt of mado restaurant.
A: Served an extremely dark, blackish-brown color with an exceedingly creamy, two finger thick, dark mocha colored head. Lace was sticky and plentiful.
S: Aromas of milk sugar, roasted malt, mexican chocolate, spicy peppers, and pinches and dashes of spices.
T: See above. As it warmed (from its' less than chilly cask serving temp.) more of a spicy pepper flavor began to asert itself. Awesome mix of pepper and chocolate flavors.
M: Whoa! This beer seems like it was designed with cask serving in mind. Possibly one of the smoothest and creamiest stouts I've ever had. But, in addition to that there is a creeping, spicy/smoky pepper heat that never gets too out of hand. Perhaps due to the sweet (lactose?) and rich chocolate? So satisfying!
D: The one, tiny exception I took with this is how it seemed to expand inside of me as I drank it. Certainly not a deal killer, but it helped me decide to go with something a little lighter for my next beer...
