What we have here is a beer that, as far as I know, has only been seen @ the Dark Lord Day guest taps.
16oz pour in a plastic cup transferred into my snifter.
Pitch black, small head dissipates quickly, almost like it's consumed by the black as night body. Looks exactly like a bourbon stout should.
Smell is bourbon, chocolate, coffee, and, as it warms, a touch of raspberry that is overpowered by the richness of the other scents. At first, I wasn't getting any raspberry and wondered if this was just a slight variant where they played around with adding some extract to the BCBCS. But as it warmed and more scents and flavors came out, and, especially when I got to compare it side-by-side to a bottle someone was kind enough to share, it's certainly got an little something extra in terms of sweetness and fruit. Smells amazing.
Nice coffee presence, kiss of sweetness from the malt. Not too bitter, nice amount of bourbon, wood, and vanilla. The raspberry isn't too upfront, but it drinks a bit less hot than the bottle with just a touch more sweetness. Raspberry seems to have smoothed it out nicely. This is a great tasting beer!!
Mouthfeel is a touch thin.
Drinkability is off the hook. Probably in the top three beers I had at DLD. This was probably a one time thing - glad to have been present for it!
