On tap at the Clybourne brewpub

“That’s a dramatic switch” my bartender said as I moved from drinking Sofie to drinking this massive 15.3% Imperial Porter. He has a point. I wanted to try something that Goose Island isn’t really known for next, so I figured this was a good choice. Let’s dive in

Pours a very dark brown with just a ring of light tan head that leaves minimal lacing

This definitely has a boozy ass nose, but given the Porter base it’s also somehow light (relatively). I’m picking up on aromas of sweet bourbon, brown sugar, toasted hazelnut, maple syrup, dark toast, caramel, fresh oak, vanilla, and a touch of coconut

In taste it has a bit of an odd dichotomy of boozy burn and lightness as opposed to the balance in the aroma. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting black walnut, spicy whiskey, cinnamon, sweet caramel, vanilla, toasted oak, and milk chocolate. The swallow brings notes of spicy whiskey, vanilla, burnt caramel, brown sugar, dark toast, raisin, light oak, and milk chocolate

A full body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a silky beer. Finishes a bit sticky but simultaneously watery

This is an odd one. I don’t hate it or love it, it’s quite polarizing. Oh well
