I was going to let this tick pass but Alex has gotten the better of me again. Served in a plastic cup at the WLV Pig Roast...Pours a brownish red with really nice lacing, tough to get a ton as this was served when it was getting dark...Tons going on the aroma, surpassing all expectations of anything Matilda. Acidic lactose, oak, raspberries and bourbon show in this light sour beer. Never imagined that combo, especially with the bourbon thrown in, yet it works...Most of the bourbon leaves the taste as this reverts to a sour, raspberries, vanilla and sour acid. Its a pretty smooth taste, maybe the help of the bourbon in complexity and not taste.

An interesting beer all around worth trying if you see it again.

This is the infected Matilda, aged in a bourbon barrel with 40lbs of "spontaneously fermenting" (read: spoiled/overripe/rotted) raspberries. Huge thanks to John Laffler for donating this to the West Lakeview Liquors pig roast.

A - Poured with a finger of off-white foam that settles to a thick-bubbled ring and clouds of haze, leaving behind some spotty lace. Transparent dark red body.

S - Bourbon, oak, raspberries, vanilla, some light sour notes. This is pretty distant from regular Matilda at this stage. Reminds me of New Glarus Bourbon Barrel Kriek but with far more bourbon and lactic sourness.

T - Taste has more sourness than the nose implies. Loads of raspberry, graham cracker malt, vanilla, and some "green" funk. Not as much in the way of bourbon flavor.

M - Smooth, lower carbonation, medium body and not much in the way of heat. I have no idea what the ABV is but I'm guessing it's in the 8% range. Finish is surprisingly sticky for a sour beer - could use more dryness.

D - This was awesome. The sixtel kicked in under 30 minutes, so I'm really glad I got a full pour of this one. I hear there are a few more sixtels stashed away for other special events. Would have again in a heartbeat.
