Joe Henry and his sons have been raising heirloom red corn & distilling complex bourbons in Wisconsin for over 50 years. For this collaboration we recreated that process while borrowing from our rich tradition of crafting Barleywine by using J. Henry and sons red heirloom corn to create an incredibly complex "Harvest Wine" aged for a year in freshly emptied J. Henry bourbon barrels, with notes of toffee, vanilla, dried fruit, & almonds.

Poured from the bottle at fridge temp. Pours very dark - almost black. No head. The nose is really smooth. Notes of molasses, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, oaky spice, dried apricots, and prunes.
The taste is equally as smooth, with some different flavors coming into play here (compared to the nose). I immediately get a smoky note, along with bourbon, black licorice, molasses, old leather books, nuts, raisin, apricot, plum, barley sugar, sponge toffee, and a hint of marmalade. Super complex and enjoyable. I'm finding some additional nuances emerge as it warms.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied with an aftertaste of anise, dried fruit, toffee, and bourbon. A really lovely beer and I'm glad I got to try it!

Cellared a year. Blackish brown opaque body with a tan collar. Smells of big raisin, barley, bourbon soaked harvest grain, old earth, and minor prune and black strap molasses. Taste is boozier with bourbon directing barley and harvest grains with dark oak up front, a softer edge of the second half has date, prune, and a hint of anise. Feel is warm and lighter, plenty thick and smooth, has that grainy barley snarl that consisting. Good but hits the spot in early autumn.

Not much head on the pour and while this is pretty still the body has enough heft that it's fine.
This is very sweet overall but there are a lot of really nice layers here. Tons of brown sugar and figs along with some molasses, candied nuts, earthy vanilla, and a little oak. Damn good overall.

12 ounce bottle into a snifter. Best by 8/16/28, had 2/29/24.
Pours a dark cola color, semi opaque, with a quarter inch foamy head and a little light lacing. Aromas of caramel, bourbon, figs, oak, malt, some raisins and brown sugar, some vanilla, a hint of cherry. The flavors are closely similar: bourbon, caramel, malt, figs, oak, vanilla- has a distinctive taste, raisins when warmed, light brown sugar. Smooth, a little dry, a solid medium body, appropriately carbonated.
Delicious. Packed with vibrant and distinct aromas and flavors, with a strong and tasty barrel presence. A truly enjoyable sipper.

This one pours a dark reddish-brown color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells like dried dark fruit, peanut brittle, stone fruit, caramel, toffee, chocolate, and oaky spice.
This has a really unique earthy fruitiness that I really enjoy – I guess that’s from the red corn used? It’s also classically caramelly and toffee forward, with just a hint of dusty chocolate, some vanilla, and lots of nuttiness. There’s a good barrel character, oaky, vanilla-ish, with a light fruity bourbon note.
This is medium bodied, not all that boozy, with a great drinkability for the style.
This was a very unique and well done take on the style.

Pours a dark coca cola brown. Thin, weak khaki colored head forms on the beer when poured but quickly disappears. Aroma is lovely - notes of dark fruits, raisins, plums and prunes, with maple and brown sugar, oak and bourbon, vanilla and char. There is a lovely array of harmonious notes perfect for a cold evening by the fire.
The taste follows the nose with notes of brown sugar, toffee, maple - sweet, but not overly sweet. Lots of dark fruits and tannic notes giving way to oak and bourbon on the finish. Really a quite lovely blend of flavors. Feel is sticky, fuller bodied, with a sprightly carbonation. Rather dry on the finish.
Overall its a lovely barleywine from Goose Island.

I had this on draft 9/25/23 @ Bitter Pops.
Black appearance.
Small dark tan head; no lacing remained.
Oak, bourbon heat, burnt corn & marshmallow notes in the nose.
Thick, sticky mouthfeel.
Creamed corn, oak, dark chocolate & mild bourbon heat flavors.
Interesting, for sure, and absolutely worth a try.

12oz bottle "Drink By 16AUG28" poured into a snifter pours a dirty, ruddy, brown but awaits as a dark mahogany body that barely allows light at the edge and almost floats a wispy cap of cocoa brown bubbles and leaves a clean glass behind.
Strong vanilla, oak, and char aroma fronts the toasted malt in an enticing combination and leads to the taste seamlessly.
Bourbon coats the malts sweetly and longs sips are encouraged to fully savor the flavors, especially as it comes to temperature. Heavy molasses taste is cut by the bourbon bitterness.
The name is clearly a nod to the corn used and I wonder if it causes, or merely adds to a slick mouthfeel. Solid medium feel that leans still, but does sparkle the tongue.
How enjoyable to get lost here in 12 ounces. A pleasant experience that only needs a cigar.

On tap at Goose Island
Hello Chicago! I’m back here for another round of Riot Fest, but made sure to come a day early to get in some beer fun before moshing my weekend away. This one sounds really interesting, a Barleywine with red corn. So, a Cornwine? Whatever the hell you wanna call it, I’m excited to try it. Let’s dig in
Pours completely pitch black with 2 fingers of frothy tan head that quickly fades to a ring and leaves minimal lacing
It’s certainly boozy in the nose, with a bit of raw corn-y sweetness. I’m picking up on aromas of almond, wheated boulevard, toasted oak, milk chocolate, molasses, sweet corn, toffee, baked apple, and light vanilla
It’s much less aggressive in taste than the nose would lead you to believe. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting molasses, dark bread, milk chocolate, raisin, brown sugar, caramel, toasyed oak, light apple skin, and vanilla. The swallow brings notes of burnt caramel, wheated bourbon, sweet corn, milk chocolate, toasted oak, vanilla, apple skin, light raisin, and toffee
A medium body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a smooth beer. Finishes a tad sticky but drinks well below its abv
This one is damn good. It’s not breaking any new ground with the addition of corn, but it adds a nice touch

Drink By 16Aug28 (assuming a 5 year shelf life and was packaged on 16Aug23)
a: very dark brown, practically black. an aggressive pour gives a modest small khaki head which recedes quite quickly to just a thin line around the circumference of the glass. No lacing.
s: dark fruit (raisin, plum). toffee. oak. some vanilla.
t: Similar dark fruit notes as on the aroma. caramel. oak & vanilla. A bit on the sweeter side but not overly so.
m: Medium mouthfeel. lowish carbonation.
o: A nice, well-made BA Barleywine from GI (and quite a nice value at ~$19 a 12oz 4pk). Really shines once it reaches about room temperature. Can I specifically pinpoint the red heirloom corn used in the brewing? No, but I do appreciate its contribution as I did enjoy this beer. A nice sipper which is recommended.

I'm happy to have found this as it sold out instantly on the Oznr release. It looks like a standard barleywine. Thinner than a BCS or stout of course with minimal lacing that sticks after the pour. on the nose and pallet there's a wonderful barrel note. It's maybe a touch sweeter than other barleywines, but certainly not excessive. The beer is smooth and the flavor complex with the alcohol balanced so as to be an easy drinker for a BA barleywine. Overall a great beer and if I can find another 4 pack, I'll pick it up.
