Bourbon barrel-aged, Amaro stout
Whether enjoyed before or after a meal, Goose Island Aperitivo Stout is beautifully complex and delightfully piquant. Inspired by the bittersweet Italian liquor Amaro, we aged our decadent imperial stout in bourbon barrels for a year and then infused it with a blend of 13 different botanicals. Every sip reveals different layers of citrus zest, baking spice & lush evergreen.

12 ounce bottle into a snifter. Best by 4/5/26, had 9/11/24.
Pours a mostly opaque dark cola color, with a quarter inch foamy head and light foamy lacing. Aromas of some anise and citrus, light bourbon, light amounts of cassia bark, coriander and rosemary, a little root beer. Has a lightly spicy aroma. Flavors of bourbon, citrus peel- lemon, grapefruit, light coriander, a little anise, rosemary and mint. Has a spicy taste. Smooth, a very good full body, well carbonated.
So, the notes above are kind of the best I can do. Not great at describing these herbal/botanical soups, but I generally like them a lot and this is no exception. It’s beautifully done and balanced between the herbal, the spice and the citrus. Not as Amaro- like as a few others I’ve had, if that’s what they were aiming for, but it’s really enjoyable.

Strong Amaro flavor, very herbal, artichoke digestive, anise, liquors. It's a slow sipper. Thinner body than most of the stouts Goose makes, it has a spritz of carbonation on the finish, long lasting Amaro finish. Not my jam but wanted to try it.
