6/19/18: $5 oz Nonic Glass draft pour at Goose Island Clybourn. Golden pour, thin white lacing, light carbonation. Pepper smoky aroma, very nice. Smoked pepper taste, bread and hops back the initial taste. Firm mouth feel, nice crisp taste and finish. Overall good summer pour.

Test bottle from the brewery. Bottle date: 06JUN16

Bright clarity, dark reddish orange color. Lasting head of foam, two fingers in width. Drippy lacing all around the edges.
Aroma is dry and smoky, pleasant woody hickory with an underpinning of malt sweetness from the base Helles.

Taste is dry and smoky, with a hint of light malt sweetness after the drying smoke clears. The smoky element really defines it, but isn't overpowering. A lingering firm bitterness suggests earthy hops possibly. Light bodied and crisp, ample carbonation. Overall this is really good, nicely balanced smoked malt element makes it unique.

On tap at Goose Island Clybourn. Served in a sampler glass. Pours a clear golden color with a nice white head. Spotty lacing. Nose has a bit of smoke behind some grain and light bread. Flavor adds a lot more smoke. A bit unbalanced; could use some additional bitterness and less smoke. Body is light and crisp. Dry smoke. Not a big fan.

(Served in a stein)

A- This beer pours a deep yellow clear body with a gentle carbonation of big bubbles and a thin white head that last a good bit.

S- The soft sulfur aroma blends into pale malt with a light clean toasted malt note and green noble hop note in the finish that has a nice smoke hint to it.

T- The soft green hops are crisp with a pale malt flavor to follow with just a touch of sweetness. There is a field corn taste that follows. The finish has a nice smoke presence with alder and walnut qualities and a faint sulfur note that lingers after each sip.

M- This beer has a medium mouthfeel with a tight crisp fizz in the finish.

O- This is a nice Helles beer with just a touch of smoke to add depth and character. Both the malt and smoke compliment each other and work well with the hops and sulfur qualities.
