Keg Laffler brought to WLV for Zwanze 2012. Juliet aged in a Buffalo Trace bourbon barrel.
A: Dark amber with a wispy whitish head.
S: Tannic vanilla, earthy tartness, blackberry acidity. Some hay funk.
T: Deep and sweet barrel flavors - vanilla, melted caramel, light bourbon and oak, followed by a puckering, dry blackberry sourness. Vanilla comes back in the finish.
M. Medium-bodied with very light carbonation.
O. In some ways, I like this better than Juliet. I've had a few sour beers aged in fresher bourbon barrels, and this one has the most bourbon/barrel character of any I've had, which I think works with the base. But I think the barrel covers up some of the nuances of the bugs. Still, a surprising and really good beer.
