On tap at Clybourn location.
A-Black as night. Dark tan ringing of filmy head.
S-Heavily roasted malt. Chocolate malt. Smells quite sweet.
T-Rich bodied-chocolate.
M-Silky body. Soft. Dry. The 9.8% abv is very well hidden.
O-Solid belgian imperial stout. Nothing stands out but is pretty easy to drink. Like this beer. Very tasty.

Served in a snifter at the Clybourn brewpub.
The Pre-Gold Box Excursion rolls on to another new beer, a Belgian stout named for a Flemish painting style that, in the words of the menu, "focuses on the existential given of death, often featuring skulls in the foreground of paintings". Right on. It pours a deep black-brown topped by a finger of tan foam. The nose comprises dark chocolate, black cherry (verging on cough syrup), and roasted malts. The taste brings in more of the same, with the same cough syrup-style black cherry character, but it's clearly the dark chocolate that's in control. The body is a hefty-leaning medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a thick-ish feel. Overall, a solid Belgian-style stout, though the black cherry character is a bit off-putting. Luckily, it's not a deal-breaking situation, but it's not what I would call endearing.
