Shared a growler with a friend that brought this home from Lodi.
Pours a light brown color with a decent off white head.
Aromas are roasty, earthy, and with some mineral hop notes.
Taste is like the smell. Roasty up front, general earthiness, some caramel and chocolate sweetness, with a touch of smoke. Finish is mineral like and slightly bitter.
Mouthfeel is ok, but feels thin for the style.
Overall, a decent porter. Definitely drinkable, but kind of forgettable too.

On-tap at the brewery.
A: Served in a chilled pint glass with a thin, light brown head that faded to a wispy film leaving no lace. Liquid is very dark reddish-brown.
S: Light notes of coffee, sweet caramel and a touch of toffee.
T: Follows the nose with lots of coffee with some caramel, marshmallow, milk chocolate and coco sweetness. Flavors are very roasted and slightly creamy.
M: Fizzy carbonation, medium body, fizzy tingly mouthfeel that softens ups in the finish.
O: Not bad but too fizzy on the mouth. Good roasted flavors but a bit thin.

A - Poured a dark brown color with a tan head that leaves lacing behind
S - is of roasted malt that gives off coffee scents
T - Follows the nose starts of roasty with coffee flavors but has a bad ashy finish
M - This beer has a medium body with medium carbonation to it
D - I don't know if they're using some of the same malts as the brown and thats why it finishes ashy but they need to change that get another beer over this one

On tap at Lodi Beer Co. on 7/15/09.
A - Dark brown with reddish highlights around the bottom and a thin creamy beige head that disappeared completely and left no lacing.
S - Very roasty and earthy nose with light smokey notes as well as hints of chocolate. However, a huge coffee presence dominates the aroma.
T - The dominant coffee presence carries over to the flavor with lots of roasty malt character and some chocolate notes. Hints of smoke adds some depth and complexity to the flavor. Finishes with an earthy hop bite.
M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation and somewhat of a syrupy texture. Quite robust and not too watery at all. Very dry, bitter finish on the palate.
D - One of the most bitter porters on the trip so far. Good stuff, though it wasn't much of a looker.
