A blind tasting of this beer could easily convince me that this is a chocolate stout brewed with real chocolate. It isn't. But the chocolate flavor is potent and convincing. The beer even appears turbid chocolate-brown colored as opposed to a more traditional stout-black. Chocolate malt character appears in the nose beside a more dominant mash tun graininess.
They serve 'em cold at The Twisp. But let it warm and this undercarbonated oatmeal stout reveals an integrated hop spiciness late in the game. Non-traditional, but rich where you might like it to be.
